Snowmobiling is very popular in the area, where there are over 300 miles of groomed trails. Cross country skiing, fly-fishing, dancing, horseback riding, shopping, hiking, and camping are just the beginning of the fun. Go through the western gate of Yellowstone National Park and a whole new world is at your fingertips. See elk and bison walk right before your eyes or watch the famous Old Faithful Geyser erupt right on time. Experience the beauty and wonder for yourself.

* Yellowstone's West Entrance roads will open for vehicles on a staggered schedule as follows:

  • April 26 - West-side roads open to motor vehicles. Visitors will be able to travel through the park's North & West Entrances to Norris, Madison, Canyon, & Oldfaithful.
  • May 17 - The road linking Canyon, Fishing Bridge, & the East Entrance opens to wheeled vehicles.
  • May 24 - Travel from the South Entrance to Grant, West Thumb, Fishing Bridge, & Lake over Craig Pass to Old Faithful and Tower Junction to Tower Fall. The road from Cooke City over Colter Pass to Chief Joseph Scenic Highway intersection to the Long Lake gate shall open as soon thereafter as possible.
  • TBA - Dunraven Pass (Tower to Canyon). Long Lake Gate over the Beartooth Highway to Red Lodge, Montana
  • Yellowstone National Park is closed (to all traffic) Nov. 4, 2013. The park will reopen Dec 14, 2013 to snow coaches and guided snowmobile tips only.
